Heat alert extended for three more days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday issued another heat alert, forecasting searing temperatures to continue across the country for the next 72 hours. This marked the fifth heat alert issued this month (April). On Thursday, the BMD issued a three-day warning which ended on Saturday. According to the BMD, the ongoing heat wave is likely persisting and causing discomfort due to high humidity, report local agencies. For the past few days, mild to very intense heat waves are sweeping over the country. Temperatures began to increase at the end of March amid a shortfall of rain. The heatwave started on Mar 31 and intensified slowly. However, meteorologists have said the heat wave may decrease in the first week of next month (May) with increased rain. On Saturday, Chuadanga posted the highest temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius in Bangladesh this season.
