Mirza Abbas freed from jail

Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Mirza Abbas was on Monday released from the jail, hours after he was granted bail in the 11th case. Dhaka Central Jail senior superintendent Suvas Kumar Ghosh told New Age that they released Mirza Abbas from the jail at 6:45pm, after receiving the bail order from the Dhaka chief judicial magistrate’s court. Suvas said that Mirza Abbas was detained in the jail in connection with 36 cases. Abbas’ lawyer Mohiuddin Chowdhury told New Age that the BNP leader was arrested on October 31, 2023 over the October 28, 2023 violence during the party’s grand rally in the capital and he was shown arrested in a total of 11 cases relating to the violence. The lawyer said that Abbas was previously made accused in 25 cases.
