Bangladesh extends heat alert for two more days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has extended the ongoing heat alert another two days. The heat alert was issued for the next 48 hours from 6pm on Thursday (May 2). Earlier on April 19, a three-day heatwave alert was issued. After that, on April 25 and April 28, BMD extended the alert for 72 hours twice. April has already experienced a severe heatwave, and the BMD says that there will be no immediate relief from this situation. During a mild heatwave, the temperature remains between 36°C and 37.9°C. It ranges between 38°C and 39.9°C during a moderate heatwave. A severe heatwave sees the temperature rise from 40°C to 41.9°C. Any temperature beyond this point is considered a very severe heatwave. According to the Met Office, the temperature may rise to 44 °C next month.
