Six workers killed in Rangamati road accident

At least six workers were killed and eight others were injured as a truck carrying construction workers fell into a roadside ditch at Sajek under Baghaichari upazila in Rangamati Wednesday evening. Identities of the victims could not be known immediately. The accident occurred at about 6:00pm at a remote place names 90 Degree of Udaipur border area when a truck fell into a roadside ditch, said Shirin Akter, Baghaichari Upazila Nirbahi officer. She said that six people died on the spot and eight others were injured. A fire service rescue team and a police unit rescued the injured workers and sent them to Khagrachari Sadar hospital, Shirin said. Sajek union parishad chairman Atulal Chakma told New Age that the accident occurred when some workers of the border road construction were returning home after work. The condition of the injured workers was critical, added the UP chairman.
