Chattogram transport workers call 48-hour strike

Chattogram’s public transport owners and workers have called for a 48-hour strike in six districts of the division amid protests over the death of two students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) in a road crash. The strike will start at 6am on Sunday (April 28). This decision was taken at a meeting of the organisation on Saturday (April 27), its Convener Manjurul Alom Chowdhury said. Four-point demands were highlighted during the meeting. The demands are ending mass arrests of drivers, stopping harassing them, increasing security and compensating for damaged vehicles, said Manjurul. The strike will be effective in Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar and Feni. Buses, minibuses and human haulers will not operate during the strike.
