Chattogram transport strike withdrawn

A 48-hour transport strike called by Chattogram’s public transport owners and workers has been lifted after 12 hours. The strike was called off after a meeting between the organisation’s leaders and Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzaman around 5pm on Sunday (April 28). The strike started at 6am on Sunday (April 28) in six districts of the division amid protests over the deaths of two Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) students in a road crash. The organisation put forward a four-point demand. They are -- ending mass arrests of drivers, stopping harassing them, increasing security, and compensating for damaged vehicles, said Manjurul. Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, and Feni were under the purview of the strike. The strike caused mass suffering, as buses, minibuses, and human haulers did not operate during this time.
