Our education curriculum institution-centered: Education Minister

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury has said that if the temperature in any district reaches 42 degrees Celsius, the educational institutions in the respective area will be shut down. “Our new education curriculum is institution-centred, so it is important for students to physically attend classes,” he said on Sunday (April 28) in Dhaka. He said that shutting down educational institutions across the country because of a severe heatwave in one part of the country is not logical. “We have no problem with online classes,” he added. Regarding classses on Saturday in schools, the minister said this step was taken to compensate for the loss of students during the summer. “Once the gap has been covered, the ministry will reconsider its decision,” he said. Meanwhile, during the ongoing heatwave, primary schools, high schools and colleges as well as madrasas across the country reopened today. However, the guardians are worried that the extreme weather will take its toll on their children. They were not in favour of reopening educational institutions at this point and demanded extending the vacation for a few more days until the weather became a little cooler. Additionally, daily assemblies will remain suspended across the country until the heatwave becomes bearable. Pre-primary classes will remain closed until further notice. The officials concerned have been instructed to take necessary measures in this regard.
